Chanida Voraphitak is an artist working across painting, game environments, animation, textile objects, and immersive installations.

Her practice often begins with drawing and character-making, a habit that traces back to childhood encounters with storybooks, manga, and serialized narratives. These early influences continue to shape her interest in building speculative worlds where characters move through layered and unstable environments.

Chanida grew up between two distinct forms of making. Her father worked for Thailand’s Royal Forest Department, and much of her early life was shaped by forests, landscapes, and long-term reforestation projects. Her mother was a seamstress, and the domestic space of fabrics, patterns, and hand-sewing formed another everyday environment of making. These parallel influences continue to surface in her work through printed textiles, sewn objects, and handmade bear-like figures that inhabit her painted and digital worlds.

Across paintings, game-like environments, and animations, animals, hybrid beings, and human characters populate dense speculative ecosystems. These worlds draw from fragments of contemporary life—news cycles, internet mythologies, political tensions, and everyday experiences of care and motherhood. Rather than constructing fixed narratives, Chanida approaches storytelling as an open system where multiple belief structures and realities coexist.

Her recent research turns toward questions of memory, landscape, and ecological time. Returning to Chanthaburi, she retraces landscapes connected to reforestation projects her father once worked on, where thousands of trees were planted decades ago. Encounters with soil, aging forests, and the towering twin Takian trees near her childhood village have become starting points for new work exploring how memory becomes embedded in land, stories, and living systems.

Through shifting combinations of painting, animation, and interactive environments, Chanida creates immersive worlds where myth, personal history, and contemporary realities slowly blur into one another.
